Would you consider yourself a dreamer? What kinds of dreams and aspirations do you have? Lately, I have been thinking a lot about success and dreams, especially at this time of unknown. I have plenty of dreams and goals that will make me feel successful in life, and I will hopefully accomplish them someday. However, I have already accomplished one of my biggest dreams and thought that in today’s blog, I would discuss a dream that I have accomplished. And hopefully encourage all of you to keep pursuing your dreams. Because dreams do come true when you work hard.
When I was a young girl, I had two main dreams; to compete in Miss Universe Canada and to walk in New York Fashion Week. In 2018, one of my biggest childhood dreams came true. After years of modeling, I was asked by my modeling company to walk for them in New York Fashion Week.
I was counting down the days until I started my senior year of high school, not because after this year I’d be free, or even the fact that I just wanted to get it over with, but because a week after my first day, I would be arriving in New York City. This was not my first time in New York City, but it felt like a whole new place. Maybe it was a little less scary because as of that moment, I felt like I could conquer the world. I enter a big secure building with my family, we enter a sleek elevator, and when the door opens, everything becomes real. I am not just in New York to walk in a fashion show; I am here to walk in; New York Fashion Week.
The energy was high after hours of getting ready and waiting in anticipation. People were loading in family, friends, special guests, and reporters. We began to form the line-up; the music was vibrant, the nerves were real, and the crowd was ready for a show. The line started to move; I took a deep breath, smiled to myself, looked down at my little black dress to make sure everything was in place, and walked out in front of hundreds of people. This wasn’t my first fashion show, yet, it didn’t feel the same; it felt new; it felt like an accomplishment.
This accomplishment was different. I have walked in fashion shows in New York before; I’d even walked in a Los Angeles fashion show, but because New York Fashion week was always my dream, it felt like a completely different experience. I did the same walk, with similar people, but this was it, the moment I had always dreamed of. If you all have your own dreams, I encourage you to keep trying to reach them. Trust me, it is possible. I am just a regular Canadian girl that got to pursue her biggest dream in New York City.
Well, that is it for this week’s Story Time. I hope you all enjoyed it! I would love to hear from you and what your biggest dreams are. Have a great week.
